Logistics and day of processing notes:
Communication
Please inform us as soon as possible if your batch will be significantly smaller (>50+ birds smaller) than originally scheduled. This will allow us to better manage daily capacity and employee numbers.
Drop Off
Farmers utilizing our processing services must drop off their birds at the DRR Processing dock between 6:15 and 6:45 am the day of processing (5437 Ganske Rd, Burton, Texas, 77835).
All drop-offs need to be completed by 7:00 am.
If you are transferring your birds to our crates, you must arrive by 6:15 to begin loading your birds.
If you are dropping off turkeys, make sure you give adequate time for moving the birds into the holding room by no later than 7:00 am.
Any late drop-offs past 7:30 am will incur a $100/hour late fee (this helps to mitigate some of our labor costs while we wait for you). This is in addition to any inspector overtime fees incurred due to the tardiness.
Cancellations
We understand that in the poultry industry, unforeseen events exist, and scheduled batches might need to be canceled or moved. Late cancellations hinder our ability to effectively plan for staffing and manage the availability of processing slots for other farms. Instead of a reservation deposit, we are instituting a $100 cancellation fee for confirmed reservations (50 or more chickens or 20 turkeys) canceled <10 days before your processing date.
Feed withdrawal and processing readiness
For Chickens, please remove feed by noon the day before slaughter (Turkeys, by 7:00 am the day before slaughter); this will result in a cleaner and safer product for you and your customers and make our day more pleasant. Failure to do this could result in losing processing privileges or additional fees at our discretion. Please continue to provide water during the withdrawal period.
All chickens must be in clean, stackable poultry crates. Broken crates are unacceptable per USDA guidelines. If crates are in disrepair, your chickens will be transferred to our transport crates, and a rental fee will be added to your invoice. Birds must be packed with at most 10 to a crate (depending on the size of the birds). Please do not put more as it constitutes a lifting issue for staff and can overcrowd the birds. To help with the bird count at dropoff, we ask that you ensure all crates contain the same number of birds.
NOTE: If you do not have transport crates, DRR Processing has crates for rent ($3.00/crate) that you can load your poultry into upon arrival at the facility. Poultry transported without crates must be transported with bedding (e.g. wood chips or hay).
